Detox Drinks: Best Ingredients and Recipes

Many of us work hard every day and feel that we can barely manage without some kind of energy boost. We tend to look for sugar for a little boost, but it really does more harm than good. Many people don’t realize that the slow and even bloated feeling we have during the day can be the result of an excess of toxins in the body. Detoxifying drinks help naturally reduce inflammation, increase energy, promote digestion, cleanse the liver and stimulate healthy skin.

Every day we are exposed to environmental pollutants, preservatives, heavy metals, pesticides and carcinogenic chemicals. We breathe, swallow or come into contact with these toxins and they accumulate in the tissues and cells of our body.

Many of these toxins have been shown to have negative effects on cancer, reproduction, metabolism and psychiatry. Research shows that the best detox drinks help us prevent toxic overloading before it becomes a serious health problem. Simple ingredients such as lemon, dandelion root and apple cider vinegar can make a big difference.

What are detoxification drinks?

Detoxification drinks are easy to make – there are a number of fruits, vegetables and herbs that stimulate detoxification while providing the body with vitamins and minerals that promote healthy body function. After drinking the best detoxification drinks, you will feel lighter, fresher and brighter.

A study published in 2011 in the journal Alternative and Complementary Medicine evaluated the use of clinical detoxification therapy by licensed naturopathic physicians in the United States.

One hundred and ninety-six naturopathic physicians responded to a study on their use of clinical detoxification therapy. Fifty-two percent of respondents reported the use of detoxification therapy, and more than 75 percent used detoxification to treat patients exposed to the environment, general cleansing and preventive medicine, gastrointestinal disorders, and autoimmune diseases.

When you hear the word detoxification, do you immediately think it needs a quick or a special formula? It’s much simpler than that. Detox drinks can be made with ingredients you already have at home, such as lemon, apple cider vinegar, cucumber and watermelon. There’s nothing special about that.

How do you know if you need detoxification? Most people have at least some accumulation of toxins in their bodies, but specific signs of toxic overload may be:

  • Constipation
  • Zwellen
  • Gas
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Pains
  • Nausea
  • Belly fat
  • Skin problems
  • Eating habits
  • low energy
  • Word of mouth
  • Mood changes

1. Removing toxins from the body (and cleansing the liver).

Environmental pollutants, pesticides, heavy metals and chemicals are stored in our tissues and cells. It affects the functioning of the immune system, our mood, our metabolism and our ability to fight disease; in fact, symptoms of ill health in undiagnosed individuals may also be related to the accumulation of toxins.

A study published in 2000 in the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine investigated whether a seven-day detoxification programme, such as B. heavy metal detoxification, could improve well-being and increase the activity of liver detoxification pathways. The detoxification resulted in a 23% increase in the detoxification capacity of the liver and an increase in the urine-sulphate-creatinine ratio after treatment, indicating a trend towards better liver function.

2. Decaying ignition

Give your digestive system a break as part of your detox regime by drinking detox drinks and smoothies instead of heavy meals. This reduces the inflammation and swelling in the body that causes the disease. Studies show that certain ingredients in detoxifying drinks, such as watermelon, cucumber, strawberries and ginger, help reduce inflammation while relieving stress on the digestive system.

3. Weight loss support

Detoxifying drinks can boost your metabolism and energy levels, making you feel fresh and light all day long. Some fruits, such as the juicy grapefruit, even contain special enzymes that help the body metabolize sugar, which increases metabolism and helps with weight loss.

A study published in 2013 in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine evaluated the effects of a 21-day detoxification program. Seven participants followed a diet with unlimited fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables and at least 64 ounces of water per day. They were also allowed to consume complex carbohydrates and protein drinks during the programme.

After detoxification, seven participants showed short-term weight loss (average 11.7 pounds) and an improvement in their lipid profile. The total cholesterol level and the low density of lipoprotein cholesterol have decreased.

4. Skin health promotion

By removing toxins from the body and reducing inflammation, detoxifying drinks promote healthy skin and minimize the signs of aging. When clogged with pollutants and chemicals, the skin becomes wrinkly, dry, and shows other signs of aging.

Reports show that stimulating the mechanisms of skin metabolism with fruits and vegetables improves the appearance of the skin. Many ingredients in detox drinks are often foods containing vitamin C, which can also help to naturally slow down the aging process and heal wounds by creating new scar tissue.

5. Increasing energy and mental alertness

The ingredients in each detox drink work together to reduce inflammation, cleanse the liver and naturally increase energy levels. Without an excess of toxins that weigh you down, you feel lighter and fresher, as opposed to fatigue, mood swings and brain fog.

Ingredients such as lemon, rosemary and mint appear to rejuvenate the body and can even improve mental alertness. This powerful nutrition also helps to restore hydration, especially after exercise or a busy day.

Best ingredients for detoxifying beverages

There are a number of fruits, vegetables and herbs that can be added to water to help detoxify. Each has its own specific components that promote detoxification while helping to strengthen the immune system and prevent chronic diseases. To make your own detox drink, you can learn about its benefits and combine ingredients specifically tailored to your needs.

Watermelon – Watermelon is low in calories and helps to hydrate the body. It fights inflammation and damage by free radicals and at the same time provides vitamin A and vitamin B, which are known for their anti-ageing properties.

Watermelon contains large amounts of lycopene, a specific type of carotenoid that is responsible for the red or pink color of watermelon and serves as a powerful antioxidant. Studies have shown that lycopene plays a role in the prevention of chronic diseases and can prevent osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Watermelon also provides potassium and magnesium, which are important for detoxification and control of circulation and water balance in the body.

Cucumber – The cucumber diet has impressive benefits in the fight against free radicals, damage and inflammation. They also contain potent polyphenols that help naturally slow down the ageing process caused by oxidative stress. Cucumber is a diuretic, so it stimulates urination, which helps to cleanse the liver, remove toxins from the body and prevent water retention.

Lemon – Lemon contains ascorbic acid, which helps detoxify the body; it also aids digestion, supports glowing skin and provides vitamin C, which stimulates the production of white blood cells and improves the functioning of the immune system.

The benefits of lemon water are its ability to rejuvenate the skin, revitalize and activate the body. A lemon water detox can also help you lose weight because lemon contains pectin, which happens to be a kind of fiber that helps you feel longer.

Lime – Adding lime juice to detoxifying drinks provides vitamin C and antioxidants. It is known that vitamin C improves physical performance, strengthens immunity and fights free radicals. Lime promotes detoxification by stimulating the activity of a liver enzyme called glutathione S-transferase (GST). They also contain flavonoids that stimulate the digestive system and increase the secretion of bile and acid. It can easily be added to a detox water or green smoothie.

Grapefruit – Did you know that the smell of grapefruit alone affects the autonomic nerves, fat metabolism and appetite? Studies carried out at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden have shown that grapefruit promotes weight loss.

An enzyme found in grapefruit, called AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), helps the body metabolize sugar, which stimulates metabolism and promotes weight loss. AMPK is usually activated during exercise to help muscles use stored sugar and fat as a source of energy. Grapefruit also strengthens the immune system because it is rich in vitamin C, hydrates the body and even promotes healthy skin and brain.

Raspberries – Raspberries contain ketones, natural chemicals that are supposed to help you lose weight fast. Animal studies have shown that raspberry ketones help to prevent weight gain due to fat and diet, as well as weight gain in the liver and visceral adipose tissue. Whether or not ketones contribute to weight loss in humans is still controversial, but raspberries are also rich in vitamins C and B. They contribute to healthy skin and natural, slow aging.

Strawberries – Most of the health benefits of strawberry consumption are due to the presence of anti-inflammatory antioxidants. Studies show that strawberries contain anti-aging flavonoids that can reduce the risk of chronic diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular disease.

The addition of strawberries to detoxifying drinks also slows down the ageing process, protects the skin, provides vitamin A and C and promotes detoxification. Vitamins A and C are especially necessary in the body’s detoxification process to neutralise and eliminate toxins, resulting in reduced inflammation, steady improvement of the digestive system and a balanced pH.

Peppermint – Did you know that peppermint has one of the highest antioxidant powers of any food? It is an ideal ingredient for detoxification drinks because it strengthens the senses and relieves stomach aches and pains or indigestion. Studies show that peppermint improves the passage of bile in the stomach and accelerates the digestive process, which helps to detoxify the body. It also has antimicrobial properties and can be used to maintain oral hygiene.

Ginger – The therapeutic effects of ginger come from the fatty resin of the roots, which acts as a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Ginger is an effective digestive aid and a natural remedy for nausea. It can be added to any detox drink to relieve bloating, constipation and gastrointestinal complaints. It is also known that ginger warms the body by destroying the accumulation of toxins in the organs.

Rosemary – Rosemary belongs to the coin family and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a fantastic detoxifier; it works by increasing the bile flow in the body, which is essential for fat metabolism and detoxification. Reports show that rosemary, by helping to improve the gall producing function of the gallbladder and balancing the microflora in the intestine, accelerates the absorption of nutrients and helps to reverse or prevent toxic overload.

Dandelion – Dandelion leaves increase urine production and act as a natural laxative. Dandelion has been reported to promote digestion by promoting the proper flow of bile and cleansing the liver. They are a rich source of vitamin C, which promotes the absorption of minerals and reduces inflammation. Dandelion can also be used in case of loss of appetite, stomach complaints, intestinal gas and gallstones.

Apple cider vinegar – apple cider vinegar drink increases metabolism and accelerates weight loss. It contains an organic acid called acetic acid that has been shown to improve your metabolism. It also supports the digestive function with enzymes and probiotics and naturally fights acid reflux. Add apple cider vinegar to detoxifying drinks to cleanse your life and lymph system. Helps to balance your body’s pH level and promotes stimulation of the cardiovascular system.

Aloe Vera Gel – Research has shown that aloe vera gel has laxative and anti-inflammatory properties that promote digestion, normalize pH, reduce fermentation and stimulate digestive bacteria. The enzymes in aloe vera help break down the proteins we eat into amino acids and convert the enzymes into fuel for every cell in the body. This allows the cells to function properly and strengthens the immune system. Add aloe vera to detoxifying drinks to reduce inflammation, improve digestion and promote skin health.
